letter dated August 27, 2012

hey mom! i hope oregon is treating you well cause we basically have the same weather right now haha i hope everything is working out with parley and his new wife (weird..) anyways! haha this week has been good! andy got baptized and confirmed it was really neat! the ward just supported him so well and so many people showed up and people were inviting him over to their homes for sunday dinner it was seriously the best welcome from the ward i've seen where its been someone we brought into the church threw knocking it was awesome. i will attach a photo of me and sister douros and andy(the bald one) and brother beitinger who got to baptize him.
we had some really cool finding miracles this week and we found this really cool kid named dominic who is18 and just moved to this part of town and didnt graduate high school and is looking for some direction in his life. we knocked on his door and just started talking about him and towards the end of our conversation i shared an experience i had when i was just about his age and i was searching for direction and after i was done he was like wow thats really cool and we asked if we could come back and he said ya definitely so we came back a few days later and talked with him some more and we are gonna start officially teaching him this week! it was really cool!
bentli is planning on getting baptized this week which will be an amazing thing to be a part of! she is 13 and just so cute and her desire is so pure its awesome.
this past week we had another park day and of course i was extrememly exhausted afterwards.. we walked and walked and walked. and rode a bus which was fun and talked to a lot of people.
yesterday in ward council the bishop said something that made me think of you and your new calling. he said "we should look for how our service (or calling) can strengthen us and now how it burdens us" i thought that was a perfect little quote. because i feel like a lot of times when we get a calling we are overwhelmed or not excited about it, so we should turn that around and look for how we can improve because that is esssentially what callings are for: self improvement and service. so just thought i'd share that with ya!
thats funny that you mentioned banana slugs and deer haha cause i see those two things ALL the time. the slugs here are fat and gross and the deer are allllll over.
i attached two more pictures: one of me on park day in a bathroom... haha and another at my year mark burning stuff haha its weird to think i've been out a year.. i feel like i've been doing this for a really short time but a long time if that makes sense... haha
well i hope you have a fun time in oregon! tell the relatives i said hey and that i love them!
love tay
